Some people think the investment in space research should be spent on helping the poor people. Do you agree? Neil Armstrong said that the landing on the moon was a huge step for mankind. However, space research has been blamed for its tremendous cost. Some hold that the government should spend money on helping the needy people, but I think space research is beneficial to the whole human race in the long run and should be supported. First, through space research, we can find more living space suitable for the human race. The earth has become so crowded with the increase of human populations. Moreover, serious pollution has resulted in the destruction of many habitable lands for humans. Some areas, if suitable for living, are infertile and thus can not produce enough food. If, through space research, we can find a planet with similar atmosphere and fertile arable land, it will benefit people across the world. Secondly, we are experiencing severe energy crisis and the need of finding alternative energy is extremely urgent. Many fossil fuels such as coal, petrol and natural gas are in the danger of being used up. If we can find new forms of energy on other planets, it will ease energy shortage. As a result, the wars of struggling for petrol may also be reduced. Some people argue that the government should spend money helping poor people. However, we have to admit poverty is the result of many reasons. The government should adopt multiple measures helping them instead of simply allocating money to them. On the other hand, finding more resources and fertile land will also help those poor people in the long run. More factories can be maintained because of the discovery of more energy. More people will have shelters and food if suitable places are found. Finally, we have to admit that for government with a tight budget, space research is not realistic. They should spend money on helping the poor. But for developed countries, space exploration is necessary and beneficial to the whole human race in the future. |
